Kyichu Lhakhang is in Paro, western Bhutan. Kyichu Lhakhang is considered one of the oldest temples in the Buddhist Himalayas. According to tradition, the first temple at Kyichu Lhakhang was built by the Tibetan Buddhist King Songtsen Gampo in the seventh century. A giant demonness lay across the whole of Tibet and the Himalayas. To subdue her, Songtsen Gampo built 108 temples among which was Kyichu Lhakhang, built on the demoness' left foot. In 1839, the temple was restored on the orders of the Twenty Fifth Je Khenpo, Sherab Gyeltsen. In 1968, H.M. Ashi Kesang arranged for a second temple to be built alongside the first.

The Iron Bridge of Bhutan refers to a series of ancient iron chain bridges built in the 15th century by Thangtong Gyalpo, a legendary Tibetan engineer, architect, and Buddhist saint. Among these, one of the most famous is located in Tamchog Lhakhang, near Paro, and is often called the Tamchog Iron Bridge. This 600 year old bridge crosses the Paro Chhu (Paro River) and was traditionally restored in 2005 after being washed away during a 1969 flood. The bridge was originally built by the legendary Tibetan architect, physician, blacksmith and civil engineer Thangtong Gyalpo who is an important figure in Bhutanese and Tibetan history. The Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang is an ancient Buddhist temple that was built a saint by the name of Thangtong Gyalpo in the year 1421. Since its construction, it has been the centre of many folk tales and tales of spirituality and superstition, which still remains one of the main attractions of the temple. Locals claim that this is one of the most notorious tourist places in Paro because the temple is said to have been built over the headstone of a demoness. Some also believe that the original intention of the temple was to get rid of the negative serpentine forces. Whatever the reason for its construction, it is bound to be an interesting visit for you when you are in Paro.

Tachogang or Tachog Lhakhang meaning the ‘Temple of the Hill of the Excellent Horse’ was built by the legendary Great Iron Bridge Builder, Thangtong Gyalpo (1385-1464). Legend has it that one-day Thangtong Gyalpo was meditating at the very same spot when he had a vision of the spiritual horse, Balaha, an emanation of Chenrezig Avalokiteshvara, which inspired him to build a temple. Thus the temple was named Tachogang Lhakhang – “Temple of the Excellent Horse” Thangtong Gyalpo was a wonder-working saint and engineer who is believed to be the first to use heavy iron chains in the construction of suspension bridges. He built numerous iron bridges and temples across Bhutan and Tibet in the 15 century, some of which are still in use today. It is said that the iron bridges built by Thangtong Gyalpo have heavily influenced the suspension bridges constructed in Europe and Asia. The Dochu La ( Dochu Pass, la means pass in Dzongkha) is a mountain pass in the snow covered Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimphu to Punakha where 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as "Druk Wangyal Chortens" have been built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. The Punakha Suspension Bridge is one of the longest and most iconic suspension bridges in Bhutan. Spanning approximately 160 meters (525 feet), it stretches across the Po Chhu (Pho Chu) River, near the town of Punakha in western Bhutan. The Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungthang Dewa chhenbi Phodrang (meaning "the palace of great happiness or bliss"), is the administrative centre of Punakha District in Punakha, Bhutan. Constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, 1st Zhabdrung Rinpoche, in 1637–38, it is the second oldest and second-largest dzong in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures. The dzong houses the sacred relics of the southern Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, including the Rangjung Kharsapani and the sacred remains of Ngawang Namgyal and the tertön Pema Lingpa. Punakha Dzong was the administrative center and the seat of the Government of Bhutan until 1955 when the capital was moved to Thimphu.

Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Great Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Desi Druk, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Construction began in 2006 and was planned to finish in October 2010, however construction did not conclude until 25 September 2015. The completed work is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at 169 feet (52 m) and contains 100,000 8-inch-tall and 25,000 12-inch-tall gilded bronze Buddhas.

Motithang Takin Preserve, located in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan is a wildlife reserve area for takin, the national animal of Bhutan. Originally a mini-zoo, it was converted into a preserve when it was discovered that the animals refrained from inhabiting the surrounding forest even when set free.
